Nursing Homes and LTC Facilities

Older adults may need a long-term care facility for extensive care or supervision if their needs can no longer be met at home. There are numerous types of long-term care facilities, such as board and care, assisted living, Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), and nursing homes. The type of facility will depend on the level of care needed. The following resources will provide more information on the various types of long-term care facilities and issues to consider when choosing a facility.

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, authorized under the Older Americans Act, provides advocates for residents of long-term care facilities. They work to resolve problems of individual residents and bring about changes at the local, state and national levels that will improve residents’ care and quality of life. To learn more about the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, visit the Administration on Aging website. To locate an ombudsman in your state use the search feature below.
